Mrs. Geis' Fifth Grade
Welcome!
I have a long history at St. John the Baptist Catholic School. I attended school here in my elementary years and later graduated in elementary education from the College of St. Catherine in 1976. I began teaching second graders at St. John's for many years, as well as first graders.
I received my MAEd degree from Hamline University in 1999. My four children attended and graduated from St. John's throughout my teaching years. I moved on to teach fifth graders 20 years ago, specializing in social studies, especially Minnesota history. I love to travel and try to visit MN historic sites, as well as U.S. sites as much as possible to enrich the curriculum.

A big week ahead! Catholic Schools' Week! We celebrated yesterday with mass and tours of our school! Families enjoyed a brunch, face painting, juggler, and book fair! It was so good to see "old" students return, as well as former parents!
As we continue to study and learn this week, we also have some fun events:
Mon-Dress in your favorite team's sports jersey
Tues-Dress in red, white, and blue-proud of our country-USA Day:)
Wed-Dress in our class color-GREEN! Hats may be worn this day too!
Thurs-Dress in uniform as we celebrate mass together:)
Fri-Spirit Day-Wear your St. John's Spirit clothing as we enjoy a few hours at Skateville!
We are also planning a Mardi Gras Mission Carnival that will take place on Fat Tuesday, February 28. Please watch the newsletter for updates if you are able to volunteer or send in items for a successful fundraising event for a special cause.
We are completing the study of the sacrament of Confirmation in Religion class. We will be creating posters of the Gifts of the Spirit to culminate our unit. Please mark your calendar for February 16 and join us for an all fifth grade planned mass.
Please practice multiplication and division facts at home. It is very beneficial to our study of multiplication and division of decimals and fractions!
Please be sure that your child reads daily and records the minutes on the reading log. We will be reading The Summer of the Monkeys together as a read aloud in class. There will be activities that we will do to reinforce comprehension of the novel.
We are looking forward to I Love to Read Month in February! Take time to enjoy reading with your child this month! We have many events that are listed in the Wednesday newsletter.
Have a wonderful February!
